What is handipay?
handipay is invoicing, quoting and job scheduling software for tradespeople in Canada. Plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, painters, roofers and general contractors use it to price a job, take a deposit when the customer says yes, put the crew on the calendar, bill the work in stages, and get paid.
Who is handipay for?
Canadian trades businesses, from a one person shop to a crew: plumbers, electricians, HVAC techs, painters, roofers and general contractors. Everything works from a phone, because that is where the job is.
Do my customers need an app or an account?
Your customer pays from a link or a QR code. Paying by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay takes an email address and nothing else: no app, no account. Paying straight from a Canadian bank account, or paying an invoice in parts, takes a free handipay login. Either way a receipt goes out on its own, onto a page that never changes.
Can my crew take payment?
Yes. Your crew can invoice the jobs they are assigned to, show the customer the QR code or pay link, and charge a card the customer saved. Only the owner sees the bank account and payouts, and refunds take a manager, an accountant or the owner.
Does handipay handle GST, HST and provincial sales tax?
handipay is built for Canadian rules. It knows the GST and HST rate in every province and territory, and it knows how the provincial taxes work on a trades contract: no PST on labour in British Columbia, PST on the whole contract price in Saskatchewan, QST on labour and materials both in Quebec, and no RST on installation labour in Manitoba until you tell it you are a mechanical or electrical contractor. You or your accountant can override any of it.
Who processes the payments?
Stripe. Card numbers go straight to Stripe and never touch handipay. Stripe moves your share to your own connected account and pays it out to your own bank account.
Can I take cash and Interac e-Transfer?
Yes. Mark the invoice paid by hand and your customer gets the exact same receipt. handipay charges nothing on an invoice you mark paid yourself.
What does handipay cost?
There is no subscription and no setup fee. handipay charges 1% of the first $5,000 of an invoice when it gets paid, 0.5% of the next $20,000 and 0.25% above that, and nothing before it is paid. Stripe processes the card and bank payments and takes its own cut on top: about 2.9% plus 30 cents on a card, and 1% plus 40 cents capped at $5 on bank debit. Cash and Interac e-Transfer jobs you mark paid by hand cost nothing.
Does handipay work outside Canada?
No. handipay is Canada only: Canadian businesses, Canadian dollars, Canadian tax rules and Canadian bank debit.
